The D2 Visa is based on business viability and financial sustainability rather than a fixed passive income threshold like the D7. Government fees for this residence visa range between €50.63 and €158.15 per applicant; additional company setup, legal, and processing fees may apply for D2 applicants.
Who Can Apply
D7 applicants must demonstrate a stable passive income and secure residential property in Portugal, either through purchase or rental. D2 applicants must present a well-prepared business plan supported by sufficient investment funds, along with accommodation in Portugal. Both routes require a minimum of 183 days of residence per year to maintain the permit.

Successful applicants gain a residence permit and the right to work in Portugal. Both the D7 and D2 routes offer the opportunity to apply for permanent residency or citizenship after five years, granting the freedom to live and work in any EU country.
